If you know how to solder it'll probably work just fine for you. Not much to dislike, I plugged it in, adjusted the desired temperature and started soldering. I wanted the 80 watt capacity because of soldering bundles of stranded 18 gauge wires for lighting fixture and chandelier repairs. Many of the available 40 watt irons just did not have the heat capacity I needed.UPDATE 24 Sep 2021: After about 20 months of daily use at highest temperature setting of 480 degrees, the tip is still good! Still heats rapidly as it did from day one. This is heavily used and has well surpassed the life of prior Weller irons.
